3 Reasons to Renovate your Home over Summer

Summer is the perfect time for renovations

Summer is the perfect time to start that renovation project you’ve been putting off. Other seasons are too cold, too dark, too soggy - but the extended sunshine and friendlier temperatures of the summer months give you plenty of reason to break out the toolbox and get to work on those things that have been on the to-do list for too long.

Here are three reasons why summer is the best time to undertake a home renovation project:

Longer, Sunnier Days = More Time to Do It Right

When the sun sets at 5pm and you’re still wrapping up a day at work, you’re not going to head home and repair that window screen or paint your shed, are you? Unlikely.

Summer weather lets you get work done outside, over longer periods of time, meaning more things get done and get done right. It’s not just the work you’re doing, either - if you’re working on a kitchen and you have to spend a few days without a stove or oven? Perfect time to grill. Renovating the kids’ bathroom for a week? Great time to get a new inflatable pool!

Also, when you’re deciding on what you want your renovation materials to be, the best way to assess those are in the brightest light you can find … making a sunny summer afternoon the perfect time to make the call on that paint color or wallpaper application.

It’s Not a Renovation: It’s a Vacation

The best way to get a renovation done is to go at it 100%. Since summertime is prime time to take a few days of PTO away from work, you can dedicate more than just a weekend to that room you needed to paint, those holes you needed to patch and that section of lawn you wanted to landscape.

In other seasons you might be able to get a couple days done before hitting the pause button to go back to work. In summer? Call the boss, tell him you’ll be taking a longer weekend to get a few things done around the house—you’ll be surprised to find how much you can do when you don’t have Monday at the office hanging over your head.

More Time to Enjoy the Results

Picture this: You’ve spent a long June or July weekend rejuvenating your landscaping, building a new swingset and maybe even going big and building a new deck or patio. When’s the best time to enjoy the efforts of your labor? Summertime!

Your winter procrastination just made your summer satisfaction that much sweeter, as you kick back in your yard and enjoy a lemonade in the sun while the kids play on their new jungle gym, installed safely and securely because you weren’t in a rush to get done on Sunday afternoon or before the next snowfall.
